FYI News Reinforces Endorsement of Ken Blackwell for Ohio Governor

After thinking about qualifications, credentials, and records of the two candidates, FYI News came up with the clear choice for governor of Ohio: Ken Blackwell.

Ted Strickland never gives a solid “yes” or “no” answer. At the first debate, a reporter questioned Strickland: “Will you today pledge not to raise taxes to pay for or support the ‘Turn Around Ohio’ plan?” Strickland answered, “I do not intend to raise taxes.” He was faced with another question: “Are you promising no tax hike for the first four years? Can you promise that?” Strickland replied, “I don’t think it’s wise to do so.” Also, when he was asked about crucial statistics about his “Turn Around Ohio” plan, Strickland directed a reporter to his website, saying, “There are a lot of things that I don’t know right at the very moment… I just haven’t memorized it.”

“Taxin’ Ted” also voted against tax cuts 53 times; He voted to raise taxes 31 times. Strickland even told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that tax cuts “make me sick to my stomach.” Why are economy-boosting tax cuts making the Lisbon Congressman sick? There are many more things to be sick about like having your district as one of the poorest in Ohio and to be rated 402 out of 438 in congressional effectiveness.

Maybe the reason for not being effective is missing 239 votes during the 109th Congress. Some of the missed votes include: homeland security, law enforcement, and equipment for troops fighting on the front lines.

Strickland touts that he is an ordained Methodist minister, but there isn’t any evidence of him serving at any church at any time. He doesn’t even regularly attend a church. The so-called “minister” supports homosexual marriage and voted to take “Under God” out of the Pledge of Allegiance. He also recently stated that the abortion laws in Ohio are too strict and supports the idea of tax-funded abortions.

"No, I don't think America was founded as a Christian nation,” Congressman Strickland told the Columbus Dispatch.

Now you know only a small part of his record, but what about Mr. Strickland’s qualifying credentials? He has never worked in local or state government, never drafted or balanced a budget. He doesn’t even have any government management experience. And, in his twelve years as a congressman, has not authored a single bill.

Ohio cannot trust a man who told the Youngstown Vindicator that, “I’ve never, ever felt comfortable with the thought of being governor.”

Ken Blackwell, on the other hand, has the experience, qualifications, credentials, and the know-how to handle the job as governor of Ohio.

After he was Mayor of Cincinnati, he served in the George H.W. Bush administration as the Undersecretary to the Department of Housing and Urban Development. President Bush then appointed Blackwell as ambassador to the United Nations Human Rights Commission in 1989. In 1994, Blackwell became Ohio State Treasurer. He held that position until 1998 when he was elected Secretary of State – the office he presently holds.

Secretary Blackwell also weekly attends the Greater Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Church in Cincinnati. He is strongly pro-life, for right to bear arms, and believes that marriage is between a man and a woman.

He knows the true value of a dollar after growing up in a public housing community in Cincinnati where he saw his parents discussing “the way up.”

Ken Blackwell has also repeatedly fought against tax increases that were proposed by Governor Bob Taft. Instead, he favors tax cuts that give a boost to the economic system and, not to mention, create jobs.

There really isn’t anything that Ken Blackwell can be attacked on. The biggest lie that his opponents circulate is that he did not distribute enough voting machines to urban communities in the 2004 election. The “argument” is easily diffused by the fact that more African-Americans voted in the 2004 election than ever before and that the county boards of elections are solely in charge of distributing the machines.

Blackwell has such a clean record that Cleveland attorney Kenneth F. Seminatore, who was investigating the Ohio Republican party in the “pay to profit" scheme and was hoping to find anything on him, said "Blackwell’s clean.”

Although much more can be said about both candidates, by now you should be able to see who is the more qualified, and why FYI News is endorsing Ken Blackwell for Governor of Ohio.
